Day 5: Arrival in Swakopmund

9 November 2013

Today we finally had time in our schedule to be able to sleep in. However, because the sun was shining so brightly on our tents we were still awoken at an early hour. Once we all had breakfast, our showers, and packed all of our belongings back into the vans, we were back on the road. We drove about six hours to Swapkopmund. Along the way we drove across the Tropic of Capricorn.

day 5

We all got out of the car to take a lunch break and to take a picture with the sign. We also stopped at a lagoon along the way to see flamingos. All of us were quite surprised to step outside and feel the coolness of the coast compared to the desert weather we had become accustomed to. Once we arrived at our campsite we quickly unpacked our stuff and headed to the beach. We walked next to the sunset all the way to our dinner location. We ate at a place called The Lighthouse. Eating out was a nice change from the basic meals we have been cooking for ourselves. I think we were all also very happy to be back in a town with different people to socialize with.
