Day 3: Fish River Canyon

7 November 2013

We started very early: 6 o’ clock for the ones who want to see the Fish River Canyon in the early sun. After packing most of the stuff already into the car we drove to see view point and walked to the edge of the Canyon. Unfortunately hiking down the Canyon was forbidden. Instead we took a lot of group pictures and enjoyed the Canyon’s silence for all ourselves. It seems like it was too early for the other tourists. Back to the camp we packed all our stuff and hit the road. And we hit it for a veeeeeery long time. We drove over very bad gravel roads with a lot of bumbs. Although we started at 8 o’clock we needed for the 600km until 6 o’clock in the evening. It was sometimes really frustrating to drive through nothing for hours and not even knowing if we drive the right road! We did several stops in the middle of nowhere to stretch our legs and wake up our butts. Lunch was in a very little town of a few houses and very friendly people checking our cars. It is really amazing how you can bumb into little towns in the middle of nowhere.

When we finally ended at Sossusvlei Camp in the middle of the National Park we built up our tents very quickly and then jumped into the pool at the camp to cool ourselves down. After a nice braai in the evening everyone fell totally exhausted into the sleeping mats. The next day will get started early!
